Organisational
Astuteness

Implement key strategic initiatives by
navigating power dynamics, politics,
agendas and individual styles

8-24 participants
1 day
People with organisational astuteness have the ability to understand others’ sensitivities, relationships, power dynamics and the way their organisation operates. This skill in organisational politics is too often viewed negatively. Many people see it only as manipulativeness or Machiavellian self-serving.

But the reality is that the people who are most likely to succeed are the ones who have empathy and influencing skills as well as technical expertise. They are the ones who can persuade others to invest time, energy and budgets in the initiatives that they care about.

Participants will start by assessing their current comfort level with organisational politics. And they’ll identify the aspects of organisational astuteness they need to develop.

They’ll work on their own strategic initiative by mapping the relationships and power dynamics that affect it. Then, they’ll write their influencing and stakeholder engagement strategy to ensure their initiative succeeds.

What will your leaders be able to do?

Adopt organizationally-astute strategies to implement key strategic initiative by:
  • Assessing their own perceptions about organizational politics
  • Identifying key stakeholders and what they care about
  • Navigating power dynamics, politics, agendas and individual styles
  • Creating and implementing an influencing strategy that maximizes their chance of successfully rolling out their initiatives

What will they work on together?
